What We’re Talking About

The winner is commenter #26 Laura, congratulations!!

My home is colored with a rainbow of abilities… a little bit of social skill issues over here, a little fear over there, a lot of chair spinning in that corner, way too much anxiety in the other corner… we have it all. We also have a huge age gap  between my young ones who need a boost and my teen who could use some edge-smoothing here and there. Finding something to keep everyone engaged, happy and working on what they should be working on has been a challenge, to put it lightly.

So when I heard about The Talking, Feeling and Doing Game from Childswork I was anxious to give it a try, see if it could incorporate our range of “abilities” and if we could maybe all have fun in the process.

I was completely thrilled to find that I could not only cater the game to the needs of a four year-old and a 16 year-old but I learned a lot about both of them in the process and I think they learned more about me too.

The game encourages each player to share their thoughts, explain how they would react to situations and talk about how they feel at different times. As a mom, I LOVED having a chance to get to really talk to my kids and make a game out of it and, miracle of all miracles, my teen has been asking to play it again and again ever since!

The game was originally designed for professionals to use with their therapy clients but has quickly caught on with moms like me and I can see why. I think it is a great tool for all kids and teens, special needs or not.

I’m excited to have the chance to give away The Talking, Feeling and Doing Game with one of my readers.

  9. I love this game! I used to use it all the time in therapy with my kiddos. They loved it too. You are absolutely correct in that everyone can play at the same time. I had forgotten all about this game until just now. It never dawned on me that I could use it outside the therapy room.
