Hearing all of the small things that made your weekend brighter last week helped me stay focused on being “present” all weekend long. So Small Things Saturday is back again…
Today I am thankful for a husband who is hands-on with our kids every moment he is with them.
We took the kids to the county fair yesterday and, let’s just say I felt the need to submerge us in hand sanitizer within our first five minutes there.
The kids had the chance to feed all kinds of animals and, between the smell and the goat slobber, I decided to keep my distance. But my husband, he was all for it. He found the perfect spot at the fence, helped them each wiggle their way in and poured animal feed in their waiting hands.
I watched them laugh together and enjoy their time among the flies farm animals and appreciated, with every bit of my air-conditioning-loving self, that my husband soaks up these moments, so I can watch from a few steps back while preparing their hand sanitizer shower.
What small thing did you take the time to appreciate today? Leave a comment letting me know. If you are a regular reader but never comment I would love to hear from you too!

I’m glad that I was able to wake up early today (5:30) and have some quiet time to get writing done! 🙂

My girls are with neighbors, spending the night. Aaron and I loaded the babies up in the wagon and walked to Wendy’s and had a frosty. It was so peaceful, no one was around (the base empties out on the Saturday night after payday!) and it was nice to spend time with just a couple of the kids 🙂

Sounds like a great evening!

Very thankful for a Saturday night in, catching up with my favorite blogs, and enjoying a tall glass of white wine. I can’t remember the last time I had an evening like this.
That sounds like a great family day–I used to love going when I was a kid.

That sounds like a great Saturday night!

I’m thankful for applesauce. Is that silly? Probably, but it’s one of the only fruits/fruit products that Dylan will consider touching!
We thought about going to the fair today, but D napped late, and I guess I’m kind of thankful for that, too 🙂
Jessica says
Totally not silly if that is all he will eat. Sawyer\’s only food used to be black beans. Whatever it takes!

Today I’m thankful that the coffee finished brewing before the power went out.
On a more serious note, I took my daughter to a movie this afternoon. She rested her head on my arm while she watched. I love little things like that.
Jessica says
I would be thankful for that kind of timing too and how nice your daughter will still lean on you. I hope my kids always do too.

I am grateful for a wonderful, lazy Saturday morning! My daughter and her 4 college-bound besties had their last sleepover here and our kitchen was filled with happy, hopeful, bright young women. With waffles and berries galore, they giggled and shared stories, fears and dreams with us. I am truly thankful that we had just one more time with them. Okay, the tears are flowing now so…I am done! 🙂
Jessica says
Awww, such a sweet morning you had. Makes me look forward to the day when my kids are doing the same.

A morning at the playground for the kids with the hubs. And what’s a mama to do but sip coffee and read a great book? That’s as close to a vacation as I’m gonna get and I loved every short minute of it!! =)

I love husbands like this… I have too!
In fact, this morning, he let me sleep in until almost 9:00. He took Lucas out to breakfast and to the park.
It was pure bliss. 🙂
Jessica says
Sleeping in til 9? That sounds amazing!

I am thankful that puppyhood lasts only a year.. but a little frustrated that we’re only 9/52. Haha, at least the puppy is cute.

Today my small things? My coffee and hubs just took the kids in the stroller on a run. Peace and quiet.

I am thankful for coffee today. And for air conditioning in this hot weather. Also for my hubby, who is helping move his grandmother into a new place today.

I am grateful today for my 16 month old. His beautiful smiles are encouraging me today. Actually, I can say the same about the hubby, too. :-)))

I am appreciating the city after spending the day in the country yesterday. I’ve reached the age that I just hate dirt completely. After spending 6 hours getting muddy, dusty, shoveling manure and eating hotdogs off the barn floor – I drove back to the city and CHEERED for the crazy traffic, the lines at the grocery store and the lattes within a block of my home.
Jessica says
I know exactly what you mean. I\’m still smelling farm after our trip yesterday.
Jessica says
Me too!
Have a great weekend Alison.

Our Hubbies are great for things like this, mine too. And I’m the one in the back to make sure the germs are not going to stick with them (the Hubs and the tot).
Today I’m really thankful that I have bought a small tin of lavender prickly heat powder for the tot, who’s having a hard time with it. And I also appreciate something slightly bigger, the fans at the wall. It’s hot and humid here.
Jessica says
I\’m a wimp when it comes to heat, I would be appreciating the fans too!
XLMIC says
I really did take the time today to be grateful that I am as healthy and youthful as I am for such an ‘old lady’. Your hubs sounds like a total keeper… what a gem 🙂
Jessica says
Sounds like a great thing to be thankful for!

I agree with Alison. Today I am grateful for coffee. Very very grateful, indeed.

Having a cup now too, what would be do without coffee?

Wine?
Jessica says
Very true :).

Today I was SO THANKFUL that my daughter, age 5 with autism, sat on my lap this evening and wrapped her arms around my neck to give me hugs. I loved it, but not only that – she said, “Aw, I love you mom.” You can only imagine how my heart MELTED! This doesn’t happen often since she usually likes her space. I would’ve been happy with the hugs, but the “i love you” put it over the top!
Jessica says
Wow, that is a huge thing to be thankful for. Congratulations!
