I woke up this morning with an agenda.
Clean the bathrooms, pack up unsold items from our garage sale, finish some writing, get to the bottom of a pile of whites… it continued on dryly from there.
Instead you whined and you took the cushions off the couch for the eleventy billionth time and you made yourself a snack that required a carpet deep clean and you stomped like the the world as we know it may end and I yelled.
I boiled over from the ear-ringing noise, the dizzying motion, the stepping on of legos and the getting done of nothing.
But it is summer and you are all staring at me, waiting for my next move, maybe to see if my head may spin off my body.
So I have taken a deep breathe and made a new list
just for summer,
just for you.

Summer provides a great opportunity for outside activities that are both fun and healthy. Creating a todo list is a great way of planning out that precious time.
Kids really love summer. This is the time for their fun and enjoyment.
I keep having to readjust my attitude this summer. B/c my boys want to play and have fun… and I shouldn’t be crabby over that.
You really have a busy summer. It is really nice to list the stuff to do.
It’s easy to get caught up in all that other stuff. I myself have had to just tell myself “stuff happens” and try not to get too uptight about it. And I said TRY. Lovely list. Hope you all are checking those things off! ๐
I’m the same, there is just so much that NEEDS to get done it’s hard to relax and just do the fun stuff but that’s what summer is supposed to be about… if only it came with a maid.
What can i say? I just love your writing and these magical moments you take in.
This is perfection. You, my friend are going to have a terrific summer. xoxo
Love the new summer rules! I need to revise mine as well. Going to check out your DIY ideas – thanks! Take care. xo
Great rules to live by!
I can remember on an episode of Sponge Bob in which Patrick had a look on his To-Do-List, because he wanted to erase an item. The one and only item on the list was ‘nothing’ so he checked it:) So sweet….
Beautiful pictures!
Very sweet, Jessica. I love how you did this one!
Now that sounds like a day at my house… so much to do, plan out the day, and get nothing accomplished.
I hope that you and the kids have a great summer whether it’s planned out or not!
We’re working on it, hope the same for you Jackie!
Oh goodness…how I know this list well. The stepping on the Lego’s has me muttering swear words and threats of throwing them away all the time.
Gorgeous pictures, Jessica.
xo
I just threw away a mini-lego kit… shhhhhh.
I love where you wrote “the getting done of nothing”….a lot of nothing gets done around here too. But I’d say that clinking tea cups, running, listening and soaking up magic is all that’s truly important. Have a great summer!
beautiful! look like lots of fun!! summer is the best season of the year, we can play and enjoy under the sun.
Yes, please.
{Love this, so very much!}
Yeah, that’ll work!

Yes, yes, yes. I too have those moments, right before my head might or might not start spinning. And I LOVE the new list you made with each child getting her/his own special thing. ๐
I love this and that children always have a way of undoing our best plans for days, seasons, and hours.
during summer our life is a free for all…I can’t possibly get much of anything done so our days are spent doing what they want…with slapstick meals, rare bathing, laundry diving, and a constant mess
Love these rules. Now is the time to enjoy these precious moments.
i am going to be making new rules for our summer too. love these!
I really have to get moving and keep my kids REALLY busy, otherwise they get into way too much trouble around the house.
This sounds like the perfect summer!
I hope it will be and hope things are going well for you with that new baby!
Most of the time their schedules are better than ours anyway!
Very true, I would much rather be out in the sun than doing laundry.
Lovely. This is the first summer where I’ve really felt like I needed to step it up to keep everyone entertained. It’s making me get out of my comfort zone, and that’s a good thing. Because things a lot of times aren’t as hard and disasterous as I think they’ll be.
Same here, mine need lots of activity and supervised crafts to keep them out of trouble this summer. Good luck to us both!
It will be, thank you for hosting as always and giving me the chance to capture our days in pictures.
A great reminder of what we NEED to be doing. But I will forgive you if every once in a while you have one of those days when your head spins off your body. After all it is summer!
It may have almost happened this week. We’ve had weird weather that has kept us inside and the kids have been climbing the walls… not some of my finest parenting moments.
