101 Reasons to Homeschool

By Jessica

We’ve already been homeschooling for seven years. How did my kids even get old enough to be in school for that long? We started homeschooling by trying it out for a few months with just McKenna and now here I am schooling three kids at home, hoping they all want to continue for years and years to come. I’m not sure about Parker and McKenna but Sawyer is already asking about “homeschool college” so I think I’ll have at least one home with me for the long haul.

I truly have enjoyed homeschooling even more than I thought I would so figured I’d see if I could come up with 101 reasons to homeschool… (I should add that some of these reasons were supplied by my children so if something doesn’t seem like a “mom reason” that’s why.)

  1. No more packing school lunches.
  2. Plenty of pajama days
  3. The opportunity to teach your children how to read
  4. Snuggling up on the couch with your kids and a good book at any time of the day.
  5. Experience those moments when something “clicks” and they get something for the first time.
  6. No bullying.
  7. Kids who wear what they like not what other kids like.
  8. Staying up late
  9. Sleeping in
  10. Hot lunch every day (almost)
  11. Better sibling relationships
  12. No looking for matching shoes before 8 am
  13. No looking for matching gloves before 8 am
  14. No homework!
  15. Interest-based learning
  16. More time to instill family values
  17. No peer pressure
  18. Lots of free time when homeschooling is complete
  19. More time to explore new interests
  20. Slow mornings
  21. Shorter school days
  22. Low chance of lice!
  23. Kids are sick so much less often
  24. No standing in line to use the restroom
  25. Plenty of one-on-one time
  26. No dress code
  27. Lots of time to be creative
  28. No rushing between school and activities
  29. No standardized tests (depending on where you live)
  30. There’s no PTA in homeschooling
  31. No school fundraisers
  32. You don’t have to buy school clothes
  33. School can be done with a pet on your lap
  34. No raising your hand to use the bathroom
  35. More time for friends
  36. Snack time is anytime
  37. Endless field trip opportunities
  38. No pulling kids out of school for doctor appointments
  39. Recess is more than once a day
  40. Moving cities doesn’t mean changing schools
  41. You can vacation during off seasons
  42. You can always take advantage of nice weather
  43. School work can be done anywhere
  44. No four-hour-long talent shows
  45. Kids can learn at their own rate
  46. No bad cafeteria food

  95. You won’t feel like you’re missing out on anything about your children growing up
  96. Activities that run late during the week are no big deal.
  97. Homeschooled teens are some of the nicest teens I’ve ever met!
  98. No activities with 20 kids running wild and only one or two adults
  99. Plenty of time for breaks between lessons
  100. Kids can learn however they need to (standing up, sitting down, walking backwards while holding a puppy)
  101. Did I mention you don’t have to pack lunches every day?

Have you thought about homeschooling? If you’re homeschooling now what would you add to the list?

    Jessica,

I loved the kid and mum reasons to homeschool!

Another reason: you can carry water bottles and snack, and snacking is part of class.

Yes! My kids love having a water bottle close. Although the snacks go quickly!

We decorated really early this year but I’m alre We decorated really early this year but I’m already finding myself disappointed that soon the decorations will come down. I love the softness of a home decorated for the holidays and coffee in front of a tree every morning.

I wish this year could be more “normal” but I’m not mad about the extra time I’ve had with kids who are at an age where they’d be more than happy to leave us for long stretches of time.

I’d love to shrink them into elf costumes and Christmas countdowns and easy surprises.

We changed up our nails in support of @trevormicha We changed up our nails in support of @trevormichae1 today.
As a mom I want to thank you Trevor for leading the way for us. We need to see you ahead of us and happy.

Hoping our manicuring sessions last long past when we can head back out into the world post pandemic.

Love my brave boy and am pretty impressed by his polishing skills. One more thing he can do for me when I’m old and even less coordinated than I am now.
